A valve is never selected on its own: it is selected in relation to the circuit around it. Three figures govern the choice, the maximum flow that will pass through the component, the actual working pressure and the mounting arrangement (in line, on a subplate, or as a cartridge screwed into a manifold block).

The most common pitfall is under-sizing on flow. A valve that is too small for the pump flow heats up, whistles and drops the pressure downstream. An oversized valve, on the other hand, regulates poorly at low flows. Second point: on a suspended load, a plain check valve is not enough. What is needed is a counterbalance valve, or load-holding valve, which controls the descent and holds the cylinder should a hose fail.

  • Limiting and safety: pressure relief valves, sequence valves
  • Direction of flow: check valves, plain and pilot-operated
  • Flow: regulators, dividers, brake valves
  • Integration: cartridge valves and manifold blocks

We can help you identify an existing valve on your machine from its markings and its overall dimensions, and find the equivalent when the original component is no longer available.
