A fitting is not identified by its outside diameter but by three things: the thread (diameter and pitch), whether it is parallel or tapered, and above all the type of seat that does the sealing. Two threads can screw into one another and still never seal.

The common families break down as follows: parallel BSP (ISO 228) sealing on an O-ring or a 60-degree cone, tapered BSPT (ISO 7-1) sealing on the threads, 37-degree JIC (SAE J514) sealing metal to metal, ORFS (SAE J1453) with a face O-ring, metric cutting-ring fittings (DIN 2353 and ISO 8434-1) in the light or heavy series, tapered NPT, and SAE J518 flanges for the large bores.

  • ORFS is the reference answer on circuits subject to vibration.
  • Keep adapter stacking to a minimum: every interface is a potential leak and a pressure drop.
  • A crushed O-ring or a damaged thread is replaced, not tightened harder.

Bring in the part you have removed, or the complete hose: we identify the thread with a calliper and a thread gauge, then rebuild the connection like for like, or propose the shortest adaptation.
