An industrial hose is selected in this order: the fluid and its temperature, the working pressure, the bore dictated by the flow, then the way it will be used. The first question to settle is always the same: are you working on delivery or on suction?

Delivery tubing withstands internal pressure. Suction tubing has to withstand vacuum as well: it is reinforced with a rigid helix embedded in the wall, which stops it collapsing when the pump pulls. Delivery tubing put on suction pinches shut and blocks within seconds; the other way round works, but costs more and bends less easily.

  • The ratio between burst pressure and working pressure is of the order of 3 to 1 across most industrial ranges: never work from the burst figure.
  • A suction hose is unrolled completely before use: a tight coil cancels out the effect of the helix.
  • With abrasive products, it is the thickness of the inner liner that decides the service life, not the pressure rating.

We cut to the length required and fit the appropriate fittings, safety clamps or crimped ferrules according to the duty.
